To review April, we really have to reflect on last month when the Government announced that from Monday 23 March the UK would go into lockdown in response to the global coronavirus pandemic.
Like almost everyone, here at Croft Printing we were worried and concerned for the health and safety of everyone involved in our business and supply chain. That said, it quickly became apparent that our services were going to be classed as essential work as companies involved in food, healthcare and pharmaceutical production began placing label orders to help them meet demand for vital supplies in order to keep our nation fed and key workers supported with vital protective equipment.
As a BRC Packaging certificated company, Croft Printing already operated to very strict hygiene standards and therefore we were able to easily adapt our production facilities and working arrangements in order to comply with all social distancing guidelines. We are pleased to say these measures have met the full satisfaction of our dedicated team who have worked tirelessly to meet urgent deadlines.
Suffice to say, we have never been busier and it’s with great pride and gratitude to our team that we have been able to complete so many projects in such a short space of time. Here are a just a few highlights from a very busy month!
Pork Pie Boxes
This food producer required a bar code correction on pork pie packaging. We generated the new bar code, printed the over labels on white self-adhesive blockout material and applied to he packaging.
Hand Sanitiser for gin distilleries
It has been proven that spread of the Coronavirus can be prevented by using alcohol based hand sanitisers. So as the nation faced up to a shortage of alcohol based hand sanitiser, many gin distilleries turned to a raw ingredient that have in abundance – alcohol – and altered their manufacturing processes in order to produce their own brands of hand sanitiser following guidelines and recipes sourced from the World Health Organisation.
These bottles needed self-adhesive labels and Croft Printing was only too pleased to print them on behalf of a number of gin distillers and pharmaceutical companies to enable vital supplies of hand sanitiser to reach front line workers to prevent the spread of the disease.
Self-Adhesive Natureflex Tamper Tape Seals for Healthcare
Another item in high demand to ensure the hygiene of healthcare products has not been compromised is self-adhesive tamper seals. We use a relatively new material called Natureflex which is produced from renewable resources (wood-pulp from managed plantations) and is a fully compostable film. The 4 million tamper evident security seals were supplied to a healthcare products manufacturer for application on medical equipment and healthcare gifts.
Over Labelling for Ready Meals
The increase in demand for ready meals meant that many food retailers had to change packaging to remove promotion offers. We were able to print and precision apply by hand an over label to over 100,000 cartons. Our label enabled the offer to be covered over as unobtrusively as possible.
Chicken Curry Packaging Sleeve Labels
An ingredient change meant that the information on the original packaging had to be covered with a self-adhesive over label in order to enable the product to be re-stocked and ensure this food service company was able to continue to meet its supplier agreement obligations.
As you can see, most of the examples this month relate to the provision of self-adhesive labels for the food, pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.
Looking ahead at our forward order book, businesses are beginning to anticipate the beginnings of a phased return to work and we are looking forward to supplying self-adhesive labels for much wider applications such as farm shops, garden centres, cosmetics, beauty, vape stores and gift retailers ensure their products are accurately labelled.
If you need self-adhesive labels or over printing services to amend packaging details in order to keep pace with demand please get in touch.
